 Job Description: The Director of Early Childhood Education is responsible for oversight, through supervision and direct service, of all licensed JCCGV Early Childhood Education programs. Thirty educators work with two hundred and fifteen children, ages 18 months through 12 years in the daycares, preschools and Club J after school care programs, inspired by the research from the preschools in Reggio Emilia, Italy and guided by the British Columbia Early Learning Framework and Sheva, the Jewish Early Learning Framework from the Jewish Community Centre Association of North America. The Director of Early Childhood Education works with an articulated vision to co-construct fiscally sound, quality programs with input from teachers, families, community, government and JCCGV management.

 Qualifications and Experience:  

Five or more years of experience in Early Childhood Education including administration, supervisory experience, and overseeing large programs                                                                                                                        
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development or related field
Strong interest and appreciation in Judaic culture and tradition including Jewish holidays, customs, life cycle events, and values, with the ability to create curriculum and special programs
Positive experiences and excellence in customer service including establishing sincere, welcoming, and meaningful engagement with parents, teachers, and children
An ability to work effectively as part of the leadership team of the JCC
Proven ability to lead professional development efforts and support educators within a teaching and learning environment that promotes lifelong learning
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills
Ability to multitask the pedagogical, relational, and administrative responsibilities of program direction and coordination as well as a proven track record in resolving complex situations
Fluency in computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience managing a large and multi-faceted budget

 Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct supervision of all licensed preschools, daycares and after school care programs
Ensure compliance with British Columbia Child Care Licensing regulations and alignment with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act requirements
Manage the Child Care Operating Funding Program, any other government subsidy programs, private endowment funds, grants and donations
Responsible for program budget, planning and decisions regarding finances and fundraising
Responsible for inquires, tours, registration and wait list management
Recruitment, interviewing, hiring, orientation, supervision, on-going training, evaluation and termination (if necessary) of all ECE staff
Oversee on-going Judaic curriculum
Preparation of Parent Handbook, School Calendars, details for the quarterly JCCGV Brochure, and other related material

Work with community resources assessing children’s development and referring resources to parents and staff as necessary
Collaborate with other Jewish agencies in the community and with JCCA Sheva cohort.
Work hours may include nights and weekends as needed
Work in close collaboration with direct supervisor, the Associate Program Director
Develop, implement and carry out the necessary arrangements for the JCCGV Annual Chanukah and Purim Sunday Celebrations

Oversee publicity, public relations and marketing plans in conjunction with the graphic and web design coordinator for all activities, services and programs under your supervision
Communicate with Building Manager and Maintenance Supervisor regarding cleanliness and repairs in the ECE Dept., both inside and outside
